Here’s a list of the 10 best book recommendations of 2022 (according to me), that you should read! These are my absolute favorites. They have made my life so much better, richer, and inspired. I want that for you too.

Books are my life. No, okay, they’re not my entire life, but they’ve been my closest companions and greatest source of inspiration. Especially now recently during the pandemic when I’ve been alone a lot with my thoughts a lot.

You should read these book if you want any of the following things in your life:

  • Design, art, and life inspiration
  • Personal development
  • Life help and advice
  • Feel excitement for all the possibilities of living
  • Learn more about philosophy and spirituality (non-religious)
  • Encouragement to life life as you want to, and learn to let go of fears and self-doubt

If you answered yes to any of the above things, then I like you, because you’re like me. And I hold myself as the highest standard of an ideal human being (just kidding, lol).

Best books of 2022: Recommendations

Electronic: From Kraftwerk to The Chemical Brothers makes me want to live, experience youth, have fun, listen to great music, experience great light art, and work at a museum. In other words, it is highly inspirational in regards to the culture surrounding electronic music and design history.

2. Life: A User’s Manual by Julian Baggini and Antonia Macaro

Book recommendation 2022: Philosophy and life

Book review >

This book is for anyone who can’t stop thinking about life, the meaning of existence, how to live well, and questions of right and wrong or anything really that’s a bit up in the air.

Life: A User’s Manual will help you get a little bit more grounded, and provide some key ideas and theories to grab onto while you’re floating around in space wondering “What are we all even doing here alive?”.

3. Atomic Habits by James Clear

Book recommendation 2022: Productivity

Book review > (Buy)

Atomic Habits is my teacher, mother, father, and the system of which I live by. This book guides me in my everyday life, it has forever changed the way I view myself and my actions. It is in essence the only book I need on personal development. It sits by my desk everyday and I have highlighted and underlined every page of this book.

This book will help you achieve all your goals in life, it will help you become the ideal person you’ve always wished to be. And it is not a book that tells you how to live exactly, but rather a book that shows you how to find out how you should live (authentically and according to your own goals).

Read it, apply it, and let go of everything else.

4. The Rock Star’s Guide to Life: The Ten Commandments by Q Magazine

This book presents the 10 rules or commandments of 50 famous musicians (e.g. Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Ronnie Spector). The contents of this book makes me braver and encourages me to live my life however I want to. (Duh! I’m getting advice from the coolest and most confident people on earth.)

I also learned from this book that it probably isn’t a myth that most rock stars do drugs, and that they regret it as they grow older.

5. The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle

Book recommendation 2022: Spirituality

Book review >

The Power of Now is my bible, which is comical since it’s deep into spirituality which many people associate with religion. And I am not religious.

But nevertheless, this book is my ultimate guide back to peace and inner tranquility whenever I feel stressed, anxious, depressed or am overthinking. It’s a self-help book about mindfulness, living in the present, and how to let go of any and all negative feelings.

It changed my life, and I want it to continue changing my life. I will bring this book with me when I travel, move abroad, experience trauma or die. I have it in the physical form at home, and as an e-book in my phone and tablet. It’s going with me.

6. You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

When I first saw this book, I was like “No, I’m definitely not gonna buy a book with a title like that. I’m not some cliche stupid girl”. But, then I heard about it from multiple people whom I admire, and who are living life the way I wanted to. So, I gave it a chance and bought it.

And oh, wow. Wow, wow, wow. It was exactly what I needed at that time of my life. I still return to it frequently to give me a boost of confidence and it helps me trust that the future will be good to me. To let go of fear, and to instead focus on living a life I love.

You are a badass by Jen Sincero is perfect for when you are lost in life, when you are in-between hard life choices. When you know you want to move in one direction towards your dreams, but you’re scared to lose what you have, and you’re doubting yourself if you can make it.

This book is the push you need. It’s the positive, optimistic, and pushes a voice of reason that will counter your own negative and doubtful one. I highly, highly recommend it.

7. Show Your Work by Austin Kleon

Show your Work! By Austin Kleon is for all creatives out there. If you create anything whether it be art, design, writings, music or anything, this book will guide you on how to show your work. How do you document your creative process? How and what parts of your work process do you show? Why should you show things? Those are some of the questions this entertaining yet helpful book deals with.

It’s also full of awesome graphical illustrations!

8. Lust for Light by Hannah Stouffer
