And this is my list of the best EBM songs that I&#8217;ve discovered so far. I&#8217;m especially into <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendyzhou.se\/blog\/new-discovered-music-rein\/\">Rein<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendyzhou.se\/blog\/new-discovered-music-agent-side-grinder\/\">Agent Side Grinder<\/a>, VNV Nation, and Sturm Caf\u00e9. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I actually learned about the name &#8220;EBM&#8221; this year. For those who don&#8217;t know, EBM stands for electronic body music and is characterized by repetitive basslines, dance rhythms, and voices that I think sound either authoritarian, aggressive, questioning, introspective, or provocative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A disclaimer: I have absolutely not heard all EBM bands or artists there are, and I&#8217;m sure that I&#8217;ll continue to discover new songs that I&#8217;ll add to the list. But I wanted to share this anyway, in case it could help someone else discover some new music!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s the Spotify list of the best EBM songs (according to me). Some of them may not be 100% EBM though, because I&#8217;m not a genre expert. But I think all of them are great.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-spotify wp-block-embed-spotify\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"oceanwp-oembed-wrap clr\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Spotify Embed: EBM 2021\" width=\"100%\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/playlist\/5agr7FO4cNdXnibqmDFjvt?si=8c6e68b673204cfc&#038;utm_source=oembed\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-heading\">EBM = cyberpunk music?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ve listened to this genre of music for years. But I used to just call it <meta charset=\"utf-8\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendyzhou.se\/blog\/cyberpunk-dystopian-music-playlists-recommendations\/\">Cyberpunk Dystopian Music<\/a>, together with other related ones. But I&#8217;m glad that I know a specific name now because it makes it easier to find even more similar music. However, I&#8217;ve noticed that there can be a lot of different types of EBM, so I&#8217;m guessing there are even more sub-genres to it than I know of?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s interesting though, how many similarities I find between the aesthetics, philosophy, and attitude of cyberpunk, compared to EBM. I feel like they almost <em>are<\/em> siblings. Most visibly, it&#8217;s the aesthetics of neon, dystopian, and punk-inspired styles. But it&#8217;s also the lyrics; that can be critical against society&#8217;s norms and highlight the &#8220;low life&#8221; part of urban life, just like cyberpunk. And also, there&#8217;s a common element of &#8220;playing&#8221; with technology and the use of technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Related: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendyzhou.se\/blog\/neon-noir-aesthetic-what-it-is\/\">Neon-Noir Aesthetic: What It is?<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-heading\">Music videos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To finish off with, here are some awesome music videos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This first one is by Swedish <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wendyzhou.se\/blog\/new-discovered-music-rein\/\">Rein<\/a>, who is performing live at FutureRetro.  And I think she&#8217;s absolutely amazing! I&#8217;m shocked every time I watch it, because of how cool she is. I&#8217;m not sure, but perhaps I&#8217;m one of her biggest fangirls now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p class=\"responsive-video-wrap clr\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"REIN - REINCARNATED Live at FutureRetro 2021\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zECaH8cwFqA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio wp-block-paragraph\">And here&#8217;s a music video from one of my favorite bands: Agent Side Grinder!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p class=\"responsive-video-wrap clr\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Agent Side Grinder &quot;Doppelg\u00e4nger&quot; (Official video)\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pdIb8btOBjw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this last one, I&#8217;m not entirely sure if it counts as EBM, but I&#8217;m including it anyway because I think it represents the same style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The feeling I get when I look at the music video for <em>When is the future?<\/em> by <em>VNV Nation<\/em>, is a lot like the feeling I get when I observe people passing me by on the streets, on the way to their jobs. Especially when I&#8217;m not doing the same. It almost makes me feel a sense of being outside of society and reminds me of how strong society&#8217;s norms are when it comes to the typical employment lifestyle.
