Isn’t it such a great feeling when you discover a new band or artist whose music absolutely excites you? For me this week, it’s been the Swedish band Agent Side Grinder, and in particular their songs Doppelgänger, Inner Noises, and Stripdown. Their latest and 5th album is called A/X.

This is one of their album covers. I don’t even need to say anything about it. There’s nothing I love more than neon lights and dark settings.

And it’s not only their music that’s great but I love their clothing style and visual language as well. Not that artists should be judged based on their appearance (I found them on Spotify before even Googling them), but their style is pretty cool.

Doppelgänger – Ah, this was the first song of theirs I heard and I immediately loved the sound. Bop, bop, bop (my head went like that).

Stripdown – Love the red light, the huge neon, the music!

Inner Noises – I find the lyrics very interesting.

The first thought I had was that their music reminded me somewhat of Minuit Machine and Arctic Monkey’s album “AM” from 2013, such as “Do I Wanna Know” (which I’ve been loving for the past 7-8 years). Although Arctic Monkey’s album”AM” sounds more rock/pop and the lyrics are more superficial about sexual interests, whilst Agent Side Grinder’s “AX” is much more introspective and reflective. But for me, the similarity is more in the aesthetics and a somewhat shared theme of self-destructive behavior, and of course, deep and dark bass & voices.

Anyway, I think I found my new favorite band!

I hope I’ll get to see them play live soon. Shouldn’t be too hard since they’re from Sweden as well.

This is one of the things I love the most about the internet, how it allows us to discover so many great new things. Now I just need to go around and send their music to everyone I know.
