[Noty & Co.] Coming up with a company name

[Noty & Co.] Coming up with a company name

This week me and my co-founder will have our second business meeting (I feel like calling it a business meeting makes it more entrepreneur-y). Last time we decided to give ourself a task for this week, which was to come up with 5-10 suggestions each for the startup name.

I did some research/studied and found out that the things you should think about when deciding a company name is:

  1. The company name should be easy to spell, easy to pronounce and easy to remember.
  2. Once you’ve heard it on the phone or heard it spoken you should be able to type it into Google without any spelling mistakes.
  3. Make sure there isn’t any other brand using the name, and especially not a brand that’s ranking high on SEO (appearing high up on Google).
  4. Either choose a name that’s short or choose a name that describes the product.

And the most important of them all it seems: Don’t spend too much time stalling starting a business waiting for the right name. A good business will succeed no matter its name. You can always rebrand later.

So, after laying up at night every day for the past week and googling “How to come up with a startup name” I feel like I’ve gotten as much help as I could possibly get from the internet.

This week it’s time to me to show that I won’t just sit and google things on my phone but actually sit down and DO THINGS. Business-y things.
